This webinar is for rural health clinics to more about community health workers (CHWs) and their role in addressing the health and social needs of patients and communities they serve. Participants will also learn about a grant the state received that waives the cost of training and offers stipends to participating students. While CHWs may be a newer term to rural health clinics, the functions they provide – such as screening for social needs, connecting patients to resources and services, supporting and engaging patients in their health care - are all aimed at improving patient outcomes. Community health worker is an umbrella term. Deb Kazmerzak with Iowa Chronic Care Consortium and Angie Doyle Scar with Iowa Health and Human Services present more information about this workforce and grant opportunity for rural health clinics and other health care and community-based organizations in Iowa.
